16-17: Fredericksburg, PA FINAL
WEEKEND FOR ACES AT FREDERICK, MD TOURNAMENT
The team didn't fare out as well in Game 2, losing to the North Jersey Phillies by an 8-5 score. Irv Sleighter had 2 hits for the Aces and Brandon Thompson slammed a 2-run double to right field in the 8th inning to tighten the score. Riley Cameron contributed 2 strong innings on the mound, allowing only 2 baserunners to reach base. Game 3 pitted the Aces against an old rival, the Mid-Maryland Red Sox in a Sunday game played at the Frederick Keys Minor League stadium. In what turned out to be a great baseball contest, the Aces scored first in the 3rd inning. Kyle Davis hit a single up the middle and the proceeded to move around the diamond on 3 wild pitches thrown by the Mid-Maryland pitcher. The Red Sox look a lead in the 5th, with the first two batters reaching base via walks and then scoring on a pair of singles later in the inning. The Aces came back and tied the game in the 7th on a ground out RBI by Steve Brindle, scoring Ryan Murray who had tripled to lead off the inning. The Red Sox regained the lead in their half of the 7th on a 2-out run-scoring single off of Sam Watts. The Aces threatened in the 8th and 9th innings but failed to get the run across, losing the game 3-2.
This weekend closed what was a very successful season for the Mid-Penn Aces. Overall the team finished with an 19-11 record against some very high-quality competition. The team's overall batting average was .267, while the pitching staff limited the competition to an overall B/A of only .211 The team had 9 home runs, 8 triples, and 54 doubles among its 228 hits, while allowing only 2 home runs to be hit against them. In the field, the team had an overall fielding percentage of .915, committing only 85 errors in 1005 chances. The catching corps gave up 18 steals all year, while successfully throwing out 16 runners attempting to steal. The Aces' pitching staff allowed less that 3 earned runs per game (2.96). They struck out 217 while giving up 128 base-on-balls over the 222 innings pitched during the Fall Season. The Aces organization is not for profit.
