GARDZIEL CLASSIC IN WOODBRIDGE, VIRGINIA SEPTEMBER 20-21, 2003

The Mid-Penn Aces had another successful weekend in Virginia at the Jerry Gardziel tournament on September 20-21, On Saturday morning, the team opened up with the Carroll County Rangers, went up by a 3-0 score after 3-innings, but ended up losing the game 7-5, by being held to only 3 hits by Rangers pitchers.

The team followed up this loss with an impressive 12-2 win over the Faris Braves. The team pounded out 11 hits while not committing an error in the field and limited the Braves to 7 hits, with 4 of those coming in their last at bats.

On Sunday, the team played a back-and-forth game with the Richmond Indians, eventually coming out on top 7-6.

The hitting stars for the weekend included Irv Sleighter, Ryan Murray and Kris Aumiller. Irv went 6 for 8 (.750) over the 3 games, with 3 doubles and 6 RBIs. Ryan and Kris each batted at a .429 clip (3 for 7) and had 4 RBIs between them.

On the pitching front, the Aces had 9 pitchers throw during the 3-game showcase format. Irv Sleighter and Sam Watts each pitched 3 innings of shutout baseball, while Shayne Wilkinson threw 2 innings without surrendering a run. Bryan Snyder led the staff with 4 innings of work, giving up only 1 earned run while striking out three and allowing only 1 walk.
