ACES OPENED FALL SEASON IN FREDERICKSBURG WITH TWO WINS

The Aces opened their Fall season on Saturday, August 16th, with a doubleheader sweep of Pa Select and the Susquehanna Valley Tornadoes, shutting out the PA Select team 3-0 in the morning and then beating the Tornadoes 12-3, in a game delayed twice by rain.

Against PA Select, the Aces were paced at the plate by Cody Stinger, Eric Chamberlin, and Ryan Murray, who each had 2 hits during the game. Irv Sleighter started for the Aces, throwing 3 innings or one-hit, no-run baseball, striking out six and walking none.

Two errors and a single allowed the PA Select team to load the bases with 2 outs in the 3rd, but the threat ended with a grounder to 2nd base to close out the inning.

PA Select threatened again the following inning, loading the bases with 1-out but then grounding into a 5-2-3 inning ending double play. No-hit ball thrown over the last 3 innings by Bryan Snyder and Sam Watts sealed the victory for the Aces.

In the afternoon game against Susquehanna Valley, the score was nip and tuck for most of the game. Nate Kranz walked to lead off the game, moved to 2nd on a passed ball, stole third and scored on a Ryan Murray 2-out single up the middle. The Tornadoes tied the score in the 2nd on a leadoff double followed later in the inning by a 2-out single of their own. The Aces scored 3 times in the fifth, with a leadoff Kranz walk, followed up by three consecutive singles by Lance Brown, Irv Sleighter, and Ryan Murray. Two 6th inning doubles by Matt Umberger and Cody Stinger resulted in another run and a 5-1 lead. The Tornadoes ate into this lead, scoring 2 runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning.

The Aces proceeded to open the floodgates in the 7th inning, sending 11 men to the plate, scoring 7 runs on only 2 hits. A hit batsman and 5 consecutive walks scored 3 runs and then a 2-run single by Kyle Witman, followed by a 2-run Cody Stinger double completed the scoring.

On the mound, Rhys Wolford, Riley Cameron, and Eric Chamberlin, worked themselves out of several jams. Rhys pitched the 1st three innings, giving up 4 hits and 1 walk, but only allowing 1 runner to cross the plate. Riley came on to pitch 2 shut out innings, getting out of a 1-out based loaded situation in the 4th , by initiating a 1-2-3 twin killing to end the inning. Eric Chamberlin closed out the game with 2 innings, getting out of a bases loaded jam in the sixth after 2 runs had already scored and then pitching a 123 seventh.
